A Vortex of Healing Magic

The newest shop in town, Brian Gibson’s Topanga Rocks, features rare minerals and fine crystals to enhance your sacred space.

Brian Gibson had a crystal-clear vision. The successful and genial entrepreneur and longtime owner of Yoga Desa in Pine Tree Circle and Jalan Jalan Imports at Owl Falls envisioned a place to feature his unique rock and mineral collection.

When a space became available at Pine Tree Circle, he immediately leased it and set upon a trek with a gem and mineral expert to import the finest rocks, minerals, and sacred crystals from around the world.

In fact, Gibson said, the majority of his beautiful, healing rocks and crystals come from Brazil with others from Madagascar and Indonesia. A several-hundred-pound quartz crystal anchors the center of the shop, and a bit of healing magic shines through the sparkling glass windows every day.

“I get a wonderful vibe coming from the stones reaching out to my body,” said longtime Topangan Merlene Marrow. “I can feel it through the windows just walking by.”

As with Jalan Jalan Imports, the enchanted Balinese and World Import business in Topanga he opened in 2011, Gibson personally selects or has every item in the store custom-made—no two items are exactly the same, since everything is one-of-a-kind or made by hand.

In addition to fine crystal and exotic collectibles, Topanga Rocks features handcrafted jewelry by local artist and designer Joyce Gütesha, who has curated an eclectic collection of ethnic and vintage jewels to complement her popular line of handmade silver chains.

“With few exceptions,” she says, “the adornment in the Gütesha Collection is made with precious metals, organic materials, and natural stones.”

Another concept of interest at the store is a monthly rotation of artworks by noteworthy artists.

During the June 15 reception, the usual reaction from friends and patrons walking inside the immaculate shop was an exultant “Wow!”

Throughout the evening, Gibson and Gütesha greeted patrons and enjoyed the friendship and camaraderie of fellow Topangans, as they officially opened Pine Tree Circle’s newest shop.
