The public is invited to learn how to dig like an archaeologist, check their spear- throwing (atlatl) skills, watch flintknapping and more at the Third Annual Archaeology Day on Saturday, October 14, at the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area Visitor Center.
“The Santa Monica Mountains have a long and rich history of human habitation by Native Americans, Spanish explorers and colonists, and later Euro-Americans,” noted Gary Brown, the cultural resource program manager for the recreation area. “This event allows the public to engage with local archaeologists and peek into their work.”
The event, sponsored by the National Park Service and California State Parks, runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Other activities include presentations by local archaeologists.
