Blessed Are the Children

On Saturday, July 14, from 12 to 12.30 p.m., Coco Blignaut (bookofseraph@me.com) is organizing a group of Topangans to sing Spanish lullabies outside the building of Nuevo Amanecer Latino Children’s Services (NALCS) Foster Care Center where some of the detained children are being housed.

Blignaut is bringing soothing bells and instruments to accompany the songs and invites others to bring guitars, flutes, or other appropriate instruments. She will also bring printed lyrics on the day of. A carpool will leave from Topanga.

The Center is also receiving donations of gently-used books, toys, blankets, etc. Bring donations with you, or drop off at Blignaut’s home beforehand: 1502 Willow Drive, Topanga, CA 90290.

To learn the songs, lyrics, chord sheet, and song videos are available as follows:

Feel free to add and learn additional songs, as long as they are peaceful and appropriate, limiting your time to 30 mins

This outreach effort was originated on Facebook by Lullabies United, a national group of Americans who will join voices to sing lullabies to children who have been separated from their families, outside immigrant processing centers, in churches, public parks and spaces.

This is not a protest but a peaceful rally following the tenets of non-violent resistance. Please respect these rules:

  • No shouting
  • No signs
  • Be completely silent unless you’re singing
  • Learn the simple songs provided
  • Meet anger with non-violence. If someone in or out of the group is acting angrily, witness them in silence and do not participate
  • Sing from your heart
  • Put your politics aside and express your love

The NACLS Center is located at 5400 Pomona Boulevard, Los Angeles, California 90022.
