An Alert from
Public Works is planning a storm water retention project within a critical safety infrastructure of our canyon. While their project means well, it has overlooked significant importance of the Public Safe Refuge Area and the Fire Staging Area for Zone 1. As we all know this staging area is critical for first responders to safeguard our community and also serves as an emergency refuge area for the most densely populated parts of Topanga.
While we are not dismissing Public Works’s stormwater improvement project, we need Public Works to consider SAFER WAYS to develop in our canyon.
I have included in this thread, Public Works’ plan (PDF) as well as previous email correspondence to Alberto Grajeda Dept of PW P.E. Alhambra Office. LGRAJEDA@dpw.lacounty.gov
As far as I know, Public Works has only been communicating with a few folks about this project.
I urge us to be aware of this project and its safety impacts it will pose to Topanga Canyon.
Public works scheduled the meeting for Thursday Dec 12, 6pm at Topanga Library.
I hope you can all attend this meeting to urge Public Works to modify their plans with a “Safety First” mindset. If you cannot make this meeting, feel free to reach out to Alberto directly LGRAJEDA@dpw.lacounty.gov
