Move Over, Rover

Residents of unincorporated Los Angeles County can now officially have up to four dogs. The motion to raise the legal limit for dogs in unincorporated Los Angeles County from three to four, was made by Supervisors Kathryn Barger and Hilda Solis, and unanimously approved by the Board of Supervisors. 

The ordinance amends the existing municipal code to allow up to four dogs per household in unincorporated areas.

“By increasing the number of dogs allowed per household from three to four, we are hoping to encourage responsible pet owners to consider adopting an additional dog from one of our county shelters,” Supervisor Barger stated.

San Diego and San Bernardino counties also have four-dog ordinances. Only licensed animal facilities are eligible for a permit for more dogs.
