Restoration Efforts Following the Old Fire, June 2016

Mountains Restoration Trust (MRT) invites the public to lend a hand on Saturday, Dec. 16, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., with its post-fire restoration efforts to restore the hillsides around Headwaters Corner and Dry Canyon Creek that burned in the Old Fire of June 2016. Learn about control of invasive plant species, care for plants that are starting to regrow, the unique native annuals MRT works to protect in the Santa Monica Mountains. This event is fun for kids and families!

Please wear appropriate clothing—clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty, sturdy closed-toed shoes, a hat, sunglasses and your own water bottle! MRT will provide water for volunteers, but will not supply cups.

Note: Curious to know what animals and bugs are in the area? Download the iNaturalist app and MRT staff will help you create an account and show how to start identifying wildlife. The app is FREE to download from the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.

Registration is required for this free event. Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and must bring the Parental Consent Form.

To register, obtain the consent form and for more information: mountainstrust.org, or volunteer@mountainstrust.org. MRT Headwaters is located at 23075 Mulholland Highway
Calabasas, CA 91302 near the junction of Old Topanga Canyon Road and Mulholland Highway; (818) 591-1701.
