Clinical Psychologist Terry Marks-Tarlow is co-producing Theater of the Mind 2: The Psychotherapist as Performing Artist at the El Portal Theater on February 29, 7:30 p.m.

In 2009, Juilliard composer/teacher Jonathan Dawe invited her to be the librettist on an opera collaboration, Cracked Orlando. Based on that success, in 2018 Marks-Tarlow was again invited by Dawe to write the libretto for a mini opera, Oroborium, commissioned by The Juilliard School that premiered that April at New York’s Lincoln Center.

Oroborium wasn’t just any libretto. Marks-Tarlow stepped into the shoes of the great Welsh poet Dylan Thomas who, sixty years ago, was on his way to California to work on an opera with the great composer Igor Stravinsky but drank himself to death before he got there.

The February 29 evening of dance, theater, music and opera performances is a third collaboration on an operatic piece with Dawe. This will be a world premiere of that piece, as well as one of the dance pieces at the event.

Sponsored by Los Angeles County Psychological Association, San Fernando Valley—California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, and California State University, Northridge Department of Kinesiology, the event recognizes the artistic creativity that co-exists within psychotherapists.

Terry Marks-Tarlow has been a Topanga resident since 1996. For more information: www.markstarlow.com.
