On Tuesday, January 28, Scott Houston, West Basin Municipal Water District Division IV Director, presented the Boys and Girls Club of Malibu with a check for $1,000 that they earned for their assistance in a November 2, 2018, rain barrel give-away event at Malibu City Hall where they distributed 200 free rain barrels to area residents. The club will use the money to invest in local green initiatives.

West Basin’s rain barrel distribution series is part of a District-wide water conservation program that launched in 2014. The rain barrels enable residents to help conserve water and reduce runoff to the ocean. Each rain barrel can capture 55 gallons of rain that can be used by residents to water their plants, trees, and gardens. West Basin has given away more than 6,000 free rain barrels to local residents, valued at approximately $50 per unit.
