On Monday, February 4, at 8 pm, one year to the day of her world premiere, Topanga resident Kamakshi Hart will perform her award-winning one-woman show, Wild At Hart.

The acclaimed Whitefire Theatre in Sherman Oaks invited Hart to return for a repeat performance in their annual Solofest, the largest solo theatre festival on the West Coast.

This will be the eighth performance for Hart. Her show went from the Whitefire to the Hollywood Fringe Festival, where she garnered the Musical Excellence and Encore Producer’s Awards. In October, she played to a packed house at Rosewood in Topanga, and then went on to be featured at the Santa Monica Playhouse’s Binge Fringe Festival.

Hart has also been selected from a highly competitive submission process to present an excerpt from her show at the Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Festival’s annual celebration of women in the arts later in March. The February 4 show is her only scheduled full length performance in the LA area.

“In Wild At Hart, Kamakshi Hart vividly tells her story of how she found the ways to survive, heal and rise above traumatic events that began in early childhood,” a press release for the event states. “Aligning with today’s redefining social initiatives, such as #MeToo and #TimesUp, Kamakshi shares her story to initiate enlightened conversations that will stimulate real cultural change and transformation. Through her courageous narrative, Kamakshi illuminates the value of telling our stories and the grace of healing that comes when we are truly heard.”  The show which deals with challenging life issues like childhood abuse, is intended for an audience of mid-teens and up. Hart suggests preparing young adults before attending the performance. “If bringing your teen, please be with them and be prepared for a frank and open conversation with them about the subject matter,” she requests.

POST-SHOW DISCUSSION

Plan to stay immediately after the performance for a Post-Show Discussion. It’s an invaluable “Act II” to enrich your experience in an intimate conversation with Hart. She highly recommends the discussion to help process the depth of the material and eave participants feeling uplifted and renewed.

Show running time: 70 minutes. Discussion: 30 minutes. Concessions are available in the theatre lobby. Valet parking is available at Augustine’s Wine Bar adjacent to the theatre.

LEND A HELPING HAND

On December 16, Kamakshi Hart was thrown from her horse and fractured her wrist. The break required surgery to repair and 16 pins and plates. Kamakshi has gamely carried on with her performance and work during recovery, but could use help to defray her medical expenses. A Gofundme account has been set up in her name: gofundme.com/help-kamakshi-heal-from-her-broken-wrist?fbclid=IwAR06qe4q8cf0vV_RL6ndytwuasiBGU3cd804aN-BEyuyKmXZymx2_MsHM4U.

Topanga neighbors who would like to pitch in and lend a literal hand with meals while Kamakshi is out of commission, are encouraged to visit mealtrain.com/trains/204205.
