Malibu Cultural Arts Commission Calls for Artists

The City of Malibu Cultural Arts Commission invites artists to apply to have their art related to the Woolsey Fire included in the City’s next public art exhibition in City Hall, “Radical Beauty, Malibu Rising.”

“Artistic expression has always served as a healthy way for grieving, injured people to express their emotions, heal, bond and support each other as a community,” said Mayor Jefferson “Zuma Jay” Wagner. “As Craig Lapsley, the former emergency manager for Victoria, Australia, pointed out at our recent Resiliency Workshop, community involvement is crucial for people who have experienced the trauma of natural disasters to heal. I hope that this community art exhibition will offer a platform to help us reflect and heal from this traumatic event.”

Artists of all ages are invited to submit their artwork to be a part of this collaborative community-wide art show. The Commission is accepting artwork in all media including, but not limited to photography, paint, drawing, collage, short films, free-standing art, and written work.

To apply online, visit the City website at www.MalibuCity.org/CalltoArtists. To get an application in person, visit Malibu City Hall (23825 Stuart Ranch Road, Malibu CA 90265) or the Michael Landon Community Center at Malibu Bluffs Park (Pacific Coast Highway at Malibu Canyon Road).

Applications are due by Wednesday, May 1, 2019. The Cultural Arts Commission will review the applications and contact applying artists by May 10, 2019.
