Messenger Mountain News is a print, web and mobile news organization for the Santa Monica Mountains with roots in Topanga, California.

Flavia Potenza, Editor and Bonnie Morgan, Business Manager

Flavia Potenza and Bonnie Morgan launched the new venture in January 2017 following the demise of the 40 year old Topanga Messenger in December 2016, and expanded the scope of their news, arts and environment coverage to include all of the Santa Monica Mountains. The August 2018 launch of M’Online, the web and mobile arm of the organization has expanded our reach and moves us closer to our goal of getting all the news to all of our neighbors as well as provide our advertisers the reach they need into our mountain communities.

The print publication has a circulation of 12,000 and is sent to all addresses in the 90290 area code with further distribution to businesses, libraries and coffee shops from Malibu to Calabasas to Pacific Palisades to Woodland Hills. We also have a good number of out of area subscribers who still prefer to receive the print edition.

Our first issue was January 27, 2017 and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. We are told that we look “fresh”, “modern”, that the paper is easier to read and that the content is rich and informative. We maintain a 60/40 balance of editorial vs. advertising content.
