Help Re-Oak Trippett Ranch, the Forest of the Future

“Mighty oaks from little acorns grow.” Help plant the next generation of coast live oaks, acorns and seedlings that may grow into giants like this venerable tree, given a little help. Photo by Suzanne Guldimann

During the seven-year drought, almost 10 acres of coast live oaks died at Trippett Ranch in Topanga State Park. The Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountains (RCDSMM) is pleased to announce a two-year joint project with the California Department of Parks and Recreation to restore trees to this area. State Parks is working with the California Conservation Corps to carefully identify, trim, and mulch on-site downed oak branches eight inches in diameter and under. This removes excess wildland fire fuel and opens up these areas for habitat restoration.

Join the RCDSMM on February 22, 2020 to plant 100 coast live oak seedlings and 100 acorns. This is a wonderful way for kids of all ages to help plant a forest for the future. After the initial planting, volunteers are needed on a monthly basis to water and care for the baby oak trees during the hot, dry summer months.
