Topanga loves its Sages. This event, held at the Topanga Community House, is the culmination of a year of monthly dinners provided by volunteers especially for seniors, although no one is turned away. For this occasion, however, many more volunteers pitch in.

“Starting at 8:30 a.m., we cook, decorate, put up the tree, serve, then clean up, without a break all day long. We all do it because we love it,” says Karen Dannenbaum, speaking for the team.

In a surprise announcement, TCC president Kelly Rockwell called three of Topanga’s most ubiquitous and hard-working volunteers, Karla Morrison, Lisa Villasenor, and Karen Dannenbaum, to accept the first TCC “Volunteers of the Year” award.

A trio of members of the Topanga Symphony provided music to listen to during the feast, and later, songs of the season to sing along with.

Sages dinners take place the first Friday of the month beginning at 4 p.m., at the Community House.

Editor’s Note: In the post-fire relief of knowing that Topanga survived, combined with the flurry of the season, we overlooked the Sages Holiday Feast in our December 28, 2018, coverage. We extend our sincere apologies, mixed with inordinate pride in the service local volunteers give to our community.
