SAVE THE DATE! P-22 Day at Topanga Elementary, Oct. 19

Beth Pratt-Bergstrom being interviewed

For the second year in a row, California Regional Director of the National Wildlife Federation, Beth Pratt-Bergstrom, will complete her second day of hiking from Liberty Canyon to Griffith Park with a stopover at Topanga Elementary Charter School from 4-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 19, following in the footsteps of P-22, the mountain lion who successfully (meaning he survived where others have not) crossed two freeways to make his home in Griffith Park.

The event continues at Rosewood Topanga, under the auspices of the Topanga Film Institute (TFI) with a screening of The Cat That Changed America at 7 p.m.

All week long, the school will celebrate Urban Wildlife Week with science teachers conducting environmental science programs with their students. The event is funded by the parent-volunteer group, Topanga Enrichment Program (TEP) that raises money throughout the year to augment the LAUSD school curriculum with science, art and physical education programs and teachers. This event is supported through the Topanga Elementary Science and Technology program.

The public is welcome to this free event that will feature Native American tribes and seed kits provided by the science committee and U.S. Fish & Wildlife to bring native habitat into home gardens. The school will be selling their P-22 T-shirts made especially for this year’s event and other merchandise. All proceeds benefit TEP, the science program and National Wildlife Federation’s collection to raise funds for California’s first wildlife crossing.

Entertainment includes musical performances, speakers and a special announcement of this year’s school play.

A food truck will also be at the school to make sure no one goes to the film hungry.

Topanga Elementary Charter School is located at 22075 Topanga School Rd, Topanga, CA 90290 Topanga Canyon Boulevard. Parking is on the premises.

Rosewood Topanga is located at 1135 N. Topanga Canyon Blvd., with parking available at 1111 N. Topanga Canyon Blvd., next to Froggy’s.
