The Topanga Peace Alliance (TPA) presents its 148th consecutive First Friday Film Night with a screening of Now is the Time / Healthcare for Everybody, on Friday, August 4, at the Topanga Library.
We’ve seen enough to know that insurance-based healthcare is not effective for keeping costs down and giving everyone access to needed medical care. Advocates are totally committed to changing the healthcare system, and polls indicate that the general public supports the idea of universal healthcare. So, it should be a no-brainer, right? Well, no.
Some of the obstacles are obvious. Big money. Fear of government. But there seems to be something more, like a fog that keeps people from moving forward together. What is so difficult about the idea of looking after each other? This film intends to expose the fog, and will leave viewers examining what it means to be an American and what it takes to step into action.
After the film, a discussion will be led by Maureen Cruise, RN, Director of the LA Chapter of Healthcare for All, a member of the LA Health Care Coalition and the AllCare Alliance.
Before the film, we will have announcements regarding upcoming events and actions for peace and social justice to counter the Trump/Bannon/Ryan agenda.
Bring veggie snacks and a non-alcoholic beverage to share at Pot Luck, 7:15 p.m., movie screens at 7:30 p.m. The event is ADA-compliant, free parking, elevator access and headphones for those who need a little extra volume. A $10 donation is requested, but no one is turned away for lack of funds.
The Topanga Library is located at 122 N. Topanga Canyon Blvd, Topanga 90290.
