‘Under the Oaks’ Salon Series, Sept. 1– 22

Beginning September 1, at 8 p.m., and for three Fridays thereafter, Theatricum Botanicum presents four evenings of live music and performance outdoors in the intimate S. Mark Taper Pavilion

Friday, Sept. 1, 8 p.m.—Andrew Shulman and Friends perform chamber music with the acclaimed cellist and his collaborators, spanning the repertoire from Baroque to contemporary works.

Friday, September 8, 8 p.m.—Composers Collective with Theatricum resident composer Marshall McDaniel, brings together some of the entertainment industry’s most prominent contemporary musical scorers of TV, film and stage to perform original works and world premiere musical compositions.

Friday, September 15, 8 p.m.—Alsop for Adults with singer/songwriter Peter Alsop is a grown-up evening of delightfully funny songs about politics because “laughter is the best way to make the world a better place.” Performers include an eclectic array of Peter’s friends—actors, songwriters, bands, comedians, storytellers— and maybe even Peter himself.

Friday, September 22, 8 p.m.—Those Who Rise: From Dr. King to Michelle Obama. An original collaborative work that celebrates the rich and varied contribution of African Americans to our country’s history, music, literature, art, theater, science, politics and social advancements.

The intimate S. Mark Taper Pavilion at Will Geer’s Theatricum Botanicum is an outdoor space terraced into the hillside of the rustic canyon. Audience members are advised to dress casually and bring cushions for bench seating. Refreshments are available at the venue, and picnickers are welcome before the performances.
