t the Tuesday, July 3 meeting, L.A. County Board of Supervisors approved a motion by Supervisors Hilda Solis and Janice Hahn to continue its support for keeping families together.
A $10 million grant expands the L.A. Justice Fund that was created in 2016 by Solis and Mayor Eric Garcetti to help immigrants facing deportation. The fund will now provide legal representation for children separated from their families at the U.S.-Mexico border.
In her press release, Solis said, “The County will always stand with immigrants and asylum seekers. No one in this country, let alone a small child, should be forced to defend themselves in court alone.”
“The unprecedented immorality of this family separation policy and the apparent lack of a plan for reunification necessitates a swift legal response,” Kuehl wrote in her weekly newsletter. “They are victims of the Trump Administration’s inhumane family separation policy.”
