“From the Earth” is a thought-provoking exhibition featuring artists Rebecca Catterall and Donna Geist Buch. The exhibit is meant to capture the beauty of what we find on earth, while inspiring us to think about the future of the earth.

Rebecca Catterall is not only an artist, but a historian. Her earthen-clay ceramics tell a story of history as well as modern times as she reshapes and reforms her slabs of clay to mimic primitive figures. Currently, she is exploring Mocha Diffusion, a painting technique on clay based upon a chemical reaction between an acid and a base resulting in a web of dramatic designs.

Donna Geist Buch, an artist and musician has created pieces that hover between representation and abstraction. By use of mixed media, she explores the coexisting tension between nature, chaos and man, influenced by color, texture and space. Her goal is to find the relationship and balance between art and the environment and raise awareness that the Earth is dependent on our tuning in to the natural world, as well as changing the world.

“From the Earth” runs through October 29 at Topanga Canyon Gallery with an Artists’ Closing Reception Friday, October 27, from 6 to 8 p.m.
