TOPANGA RESIDENTS WILL PERFORM IN WESTSIDE BALLET OF SANTA MONICA’S 2018 NUTCRACKER SEASON AT THE BROAD STAGE IN SANTA MONICA.

Topanga residents, Sidney Brody (15) and Zoe Mack (13) will perform in Westside Ballet of Santa Monica’s 2018 Nutcracker season at The Broad Stage in Santa Monica, which runs Saturday November 24 through Sunday December 2.

Brody, who was born in Topanga, is a sophomore at Palisades High School. This year marks her third year with Westside Ballet, and her fourth season performing in Westside’s Nutcracker. She has already danced many roles, from a child in the Party Scene to the Peppermint and Chinese corps divertissements in the Kingdom of the Sweets. This year she’ll perform the lead Chinese divertissement as well as the beautiful Waltz of the Flowers corps de ballet.

Sidney’s favorite academic subject is math and she enjoys reading in her spare time.

“At Westside, I like being with my friends, and I really appreciate the dedication of the teachers,” says Brody. ”My level at Westside is really close and we always support each other.”

Mack is in eighth grade at Paul Revere Middle School and has been dancing at Westside Ballet since she was seven. Her first Nutcracker was five years ago when she performed in the role of Polichinelle. Since then, she has performed the roles of Red Soldier, Party Girl, Crystal Bell, Side Russian, and, this year, Side Chinese and one of the beautiful Peppermint Candy Corps. Zoe is especially excited about her roles which are more challenging this year but also very exciting.

Zoe is very grateful to the teachers for sharing their talent and helping her to become a better dancer. For her, Westside Ballet is more than a dance studio; it is a place to be with close friends and community, a place to work hard, dream and to be inspired.

Zoe’s family moved to Topanga in 2012 when she started in first grade at Topanga Elementary with Roger Harrell.

About Westside Ballet—Westside Ballet of Santa Monica, in partnership with the Santa Monica College Symphony Orchestra, announces its 46th season of the holiday classic, The Nutcracker. The company, established in 1973, returns to the Broad Stage at the Santa Monica Performing Arts Center to present eight beautifully imagined ballet productions scheduled from November 24 – December 2.

As the Westside Ballet school’s Boys Program continues to thrive, more young boys are dancing in the Nutcracker this year than ever before. Inspired by Zane Jesswein, who began at Westside at age 4, the youngest boys now look up to Zane, who has been a scholarship student at American Ballet Theater over the past two summers.
