Perspectivas Held Over until Sept. 29

Public response to the latest exhibit at the Topanga Canyon Gallery has extended Perspectivas for an additional week.

Guests attending  the September 7 Artists’ Reception didn’t hold back in their praise of the artists and the show: “Excellent individual work,” “Engaging concept,” “Brought together beautifully,” “One of the best art exhibits we’ve seen,” “Makes me look at Los Angeles differently.”

The one-of-a-kind show explores the vision of three artists, each using their chosen medium, of seven landmarks around the city and county. Guests are invited to take their time as they explore each of the locations through the camera lens of Don Holtz, in the oil paintings of Russell Hunzinger, and in the contemporary expressionist landscapes of Moises Mendoza.

Familiar sights of the Griffith Observatory, Malibu Pier, and lifeguard stations are depicted in a wholly unfamiliar way. Three views of the Los Angeles River and bridges will likely be entirely new to most visitors. Many have returned to explore the images again and again.

“We want everyone to have a chance to come see this show,” says Patrick Ramsey, president of the artist-owned gallery. “We hope the extra week will allow people to plan a trip to the Gallery before we put up our next exhibit.” That show, What’s Happening, will give the public a chance to view what new types of work artists are pursuing today. It is scheduled to open October 2, with an opening reception, Saturday, October 5.
