“Wasted” What Happens to our Trash?

Victoria Charles

Do you know where your trash goes? Is your recycling really being recycled?

Victoria Charles, a professor in the Sustainable Technologies Program at Santa Monica College, will present a program, “Wasted,” at Topanga Library on Saturday, December 1, 2-4 p.m., sharing her perspectives on how to integrate sustainable solutions into our lives.

In the U.S. the average person generates 4.3 pounds of waste daily, 55 percent of which is buried in landfills. Organic materials comprise more than 40 percent of what goes into a landfill while emitting methane gas, one of the most harmful greenhouse gasses that contribute to global warming.

Who do we talk to? Where do we go to do our part in managing our waste?

The Topanga Library is located at 122 N. Topanga Canyon Blvd., Topanga, CA 90290. For more information: (310) 455-3480; colapublib.org.
