Year-End Letter from the Gallery

Dear Fellow Topangans:

Thank you for your support in 2018. Here it is, the end of another year and a good time to look back and forward.

Our new approach and remodel last January were well received and has created a nicer gallery space, with more focus on the fine art of member artists. Our receptions were well attended, and you bought art for your homes, offices, and as gifts.

Our 2018 Topanga Canyon Gallery Artist’s Studio Tour broke records for attendance and sales, and we are already preparing for another great event in 2019 scheduled for June 1 and 2. Put it on your calendar now and plan for a wonderful weekend.

We have just put out a call to local artists who would like to participate so if you or someone you know might be interested in being an artist on the tour for 2019, visit topangacanyongallery.com/studio-tour-2019 for information and an application.

In addition to the Studio Tour, we have a great year planned. Starting January 9, the Gallery is hosting Women Painters West’s “New Beginnings” juried show. Women Painters West is one of the oldest art clubs in California, and they will have fantastic works of art on display and for sale during the show that runs through January 27. The artists’ reception and awards will take place on Sunday, January 13, 2-5 p.m.

January 31-February 3 will feature Topanga Charter Elementary School’s annual children’s art show at the Gallery. We are pleased to offer the space and encourage art in education. Stop by and see the work of artists-in-training!

In February, we, the member artists, will present “Everything has a Story.” In this show, the gallery’s 20 members will provide the “real” story behind the art. Bound to be an engaging show, each artist is showing art with a good story, or creating something specifically for this show, to share with visitors.

March brings some of your favorite artists, Kit Plumridge, Toby Salkin, Sari Scheer, and new member Lois York, presenting work with an old-time carnival theme. With new and innovative art this show will make you feel like a kid in awe again.

In April, the artists that brought you “Women at Work” last year are back at it, with a new theme and new work. Carole Carpenter, Patrick Ramsey, and Idelle Okman Tysbir always put together an engaging show, and have upped their game in their very diverse mediums – watercolor, metal, dye on silk, and photography.

In May, the Gallery will transform into a pre-show and sale for the Studio Tour. Purchase tickets online and at the gallery, see a piece of art from each participating artist, and plan which artists you want to visit on Tour weekend, a perfect time to share your love of Topanga with friends.

We are looking forward to an exciting art-filled year, and look forward to meeting you.

Happy New Year from the artists of Topanga Canyon Gallery.
