Malibu Public Safety Expo

The City of Malibu is holding a free Public Safety and Preparedness Expo on Saturday, June 15, and the Topanga community is invited to participate. The event offers an opportunity to “Learn how you can get yourself, your family and your neighborhood better prepared for wildfires, earthquakes and other disasters.”

One of the best ways to prepare for wildfires, earthquakes and other disasters as individuals, families and a community is to get trained in first aid and emergency preparedness, make emergency plans, and stock up on the right kind of supplies need to survive without help for 72 hours or more in case of a major disaster.

Safety and preparedness presentations and vendor booths will include the Los Angeles County Fire and Sheriff’s Departments, the miniature therapy horses that work with the Sheriff’s Department, the American Red Cross, the Los Angeles County Office of Emergency Management, Emergency Café, Malibu radio station KBUU 99.1 FM, fire prevention and emergency preparedness equipment and service vendors. There will also be wildland fire preparedness presentations.

The expo, organized by the Malibu Office of Public Safety and the Public Safety Commission, is part of the City’s ongoing efforts to increase public safety and disaster preparedness in the community.

Malibu Public Safety and Preparedness Expo takes place on Saturday, June 15, 10 AM – 3 pm, at the Trancas Country Market 30745 Pacific Coast Highway, in Malibu, just west of Zuma Beach. Classes, schedules, speakers and vendors will be posted at www.MalibuCity.org/SafetyExpo and on the city’s social media accounts. Activities are expected to include first aid workshops, and opportunities to volunteer for other emergency programs like Arson Watch, CERT, and learning to be a Ham radio operator.
