Are family or friends coming to visit? Have them come the first weekend of June and show off Topanga artists in all their glory.
The Topanga Artists Studio Tour runs June 1-2, a wonderful way to share our canyon and our community. The Topanga Canyon Gallery (TCG) Studio Tour provides an intimate view of the back roads, woodlands, and mountains that make up Topanga. It is also a unique introduction to the colony of artists who have settled in the canyon for decades.
TCG provides a map of the entire canyon, with 19 homes and studios notated to visit. At each location they will see a different geographical part of the canyon, with various views and character. They will also meet the artists who live and work here, inspired by the creative environment. Many of the artists have invited other artists to join them so you and your visitors could be seeing the work of three, four, even six artists at one location.
With two full days to visit as many sites as you want, this should be a relaxing “perusal” of the community and the art. Some visitors spend 10 minutes in one place, while others spend an hour and come back the next day. At the end of the weekend your friends will have enjoyed a relaxed two days filled with nature and beauty–and understand why you choose to live in this canyon.
Set up your visitors now for this weekend. Your guests will have a great time without going far or spending a fortune to do it.
This year is the 18th Topanga Canyon Gallery Studio Tour, and its following continues to grow. There were far more artist applicants than could be accommodated this year, so the Tour jury made discerning selections to provide a variety of styles and mediums with the highest quality of art. There are 43 artists on the tour, including 13 who are showing for the first time, and six who haven’t shown in a few years. The returning artists are showing new work, with some having evolved into new styles or mediums over the year.
All of the artists are showing one piece at the Gallery for a month prior to the tour, from May 2 to June 3. Most artists have also created an 8 x 8 piece you can see in the gallery on the Silent Auction wall. The auction will be completed during the Tour reception and announced Saturday, June 1, from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
There are more Sponsors this year than ever before, demonstrating the interest the Tour generates in and out of Topanga, and how important it has become as part of the Canyon culture.
Tickets can be purchased online now, for $15 at topangacanyongallery.com/studiotour; during the Tour weekend, tickets cost $20.
