When Roots & Wings officially opened its doors in Malibu on August 26, there were five Topangans among the holistic health practitioners on the roster of the new Wellness Center that focuses on families and children, as well as personal growth.
The Topanga connection evolved through Kamakshi Hart and her counseling program, Mothers Raising Daughters. She and Roots & Wings founder, Dr. Jennifer Johnston-Jones, a renowned psychologist and expert in Transformational Parenting, had worked together a few years earlier and Hart was one of first Johnston-Jones invited to join in her vision whose mission is to “Make raising children and being a child a joyful and transformational experience.”
Hart, also provides “Horse Connection Therapy” with Jesse and Drifter, horses who were previously owned by Johnston-Jones.
Roots & Wings provides a cornucopia of holistic programs and therapy sessions, such as Neurofeedback, Life Coaching for Parents and Teens, Therapeutic Writing, Pain Management, Dream Work and Meditation. Classes include Entrepreneurship for Kids, Art Therapy and Workshops for Kids and Transformational Divorce & Co-Parenting.
All profits from the center go towards free parenting classes at schools, synagogues and churches using Dr. Jones’ curriculum, Transformational Parenting. She and her team have been providing parenting classes all over Southern California for 20 years to LA and Santa Monica Unified School Districts and some private schools.
Along with Hart, other Topangans on the Roots & Wings Team are; Neurofeedback Practitioners Leah Matson, Ph.D., MFT, and Michael Allen Moore, CPC; Allison Balser, M.A., Life Coach for Parents & Teen; Laura Scheurer, M.A., V.S.G.C., Therapeutic Writing;
