California State Parks and the Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountains (RCDSMM) are looking for your input and suggestions on planning the restoration of the Topanga Lagoon area. Following a presentation on the project history, goals and objectives, opportunities and constraints, participants will contribute to a design charette to provide input and ideas to help guide the project development.

The Topanga Lagoon area was incorporated into Topanga State Park in 2001, and the general plan revision in 2012 identified several goals for the Lower Topanga Zone including:

  • Restore Topanga Lagoon without impacting the surf break
  • Engage the community to establish goals for the lagoon and visitor serving elements of the project
  • Provide a natural gateway into Topanga State Park with minimal built structures
  • Provide affordable overnight lodging and concessions:
  • Evaluate opportunities for adaptive reuse of Topanga Ranch Motel
  • Locate interpretive and educational elements for visitors

With recent funding from Proposition 12 administered by the California Coastal Commission and the Santa Monica Bay Restoration Commission, the Phase 1 planning process is getting underway. This meeting provides an important opportunity for interested members of the public to share their ideas and provide suggestions.

The meeting is scheduled for Saturday Feb. 29, 10 a.m.–noon, at the Annenberg Beach House, 415 Pacific Coast Highway, Santa Monica, CA 90402. Parking is $8.
